“I just hope for the best, hope I’m going to find a dress that is comfortable and shoes that don’t make me scream after half an hour.“
-Kate Winslet
Kate Winslet is referring to her search for red carpet garb, but the same sentiment undoubtedly holds true for brides as well, as evidenced by a question from today’s fashion chat on washingtonpost.com. A bride in planning mode (Arlington, VA) asks for advice from the Post‘s fashion reporter, Janet Bennett Kelly, on where to find wedding heels that are comfortable enough for dancing, and can be re-purposed after Her Big Day. Here’s the exchange:
Arlington, Va.: Afternoon! I will be getting married in July and I am on the hunt for fabulous shoes. I am looking for heels that look great and that are comfortable enough so that I can dance throughout the night. Where can I find fashionable heels that are comfy and don’t scream “wedding!” (so that I can wear them again)?
Janet Bennett Kelly: I would try Zappo’s first and then local sources like Sassanova stores in Georgetown and Bethesda, Shoe Hive in Alexandria and Simply Soles, which is online but is opening a boutique in Georgetown.
Good advice, but we’ve made it more specific by compiling a Wish List which contains 26 options for comfortable wedding heels. To meet the requirement for comfort, the shoes’ heel height (net any platform height) cannot exceed 3 inches. In addition, the shoes needed to be either dyeable or so elegant that they worked as is with other evening wear. We also recommend going for quality brands like Stuart Weitzman and Kate Spade; while they cost a little more, you will more than recoup their cost in comfort, styling, and longevity.
