Trend Report: Wedge Heel Boots

Moschino Cheap & Chic Wedge Heel BootiesWedge heel boots are everywhere this season — and with good reason.

First up is the fact that wedge heel boots work with a wide range of wardrobe elements (many of which you probably already own). With their tailored good looks and interesting details, wedge heel boots are a great way to refresh pants and skirts from last year, and add a bit of interest to your work or daytime wardrobe.

Most notable, though, is how modern wedge heel boots look. If an architectural silhouette is what you’re looking for, look no further than this season’s wedge heel boots.

How to wear wedge heel boots

To look fresh and modern (and avoid having your feet look as though they are encased in cement), pair wedge boots and booties with the following pieces:

  • Above-the-knee skirt and tights that match the boots: The goal is to create a monochromatic block of color and shape from your toes to your hemline or waistband — the look is all about structure and modern design. Think skyline silhouette.
  • Cropped, tailored pants, in a winter fabric like wool or tweed: Wedge booties that are embellished, lace-up, whose fabric is draped (like our Moschino Cheap & Chic Shoe Of The Week shown above), or which sport other details worth accentuating are shown off to great advantage in this ensemble.
  • Skinny jeans: The key with wedge heel boots is to keep the line long and lean, so skinny jeans are a natural complement. You might even get away with pairing wedge heel boots with a long (i.e., mid-calf) skirt — as long as the skirt is skinny and made of a reasonably clingy fabric like a woven knit.

Stuart Weitzman Clean WedgeSome rules of thumb:

  • Pair wedge boots with opaque tights. Bare legs are very sexy with stiletto boots, but don’t work as well with wedge boots. There’s no better complement to wedge heel boots than a great pair of opaque tights.
  • Wedge heel boots are, in general, daytime shoes (though the amazing Stuart Weitzman lucite heels at right are a notable exception).
  • Keep your skirt length just above the knee or shorter. Lower hemlines with wedges is, in general, not a flattering look (though, as we note above, wedge heel boots may work with a long skinny skirt).
  • You can pair wedge booties or boots with boot-cut pants — but why bother? One of the major features of the shoe is obviously the wedge heel, which will essentially be hidden under boot-cut pants.

So, as you can see, there are tons of great reasons to add this versatile footwear to your shoe closet. Make sure to check out our great selection of wedge heel boots on BuyFantasticShoes.com.
