Who doesn’t love turquoise? No other color is quite as good at conjuring up the image of island vacations, warm sunny seas, and just general bliss.
Makes sense, then, that Pantone has anointed turquoise the color of the year for 2010. And, not surprisingly, we have tons of gorgeous turquoise-hued shoes to choose from this spring, in styles ranging from casual sandals to suede pumps.
Of course, this trend is not concerned with the style of the footwear, rather it’s all about how to use turquoise shoes to really make your outfits stand apart. Turquoise has both warm and cool tones, so it works with just about any color; you’re sure to love it combined with:
- Neutrals: Turquoise adds a welcome punch of color to neutrals. Picture turquoise slingbacks (at right) with a crisp khaki-toned shirt dress.
Lime green: Turquoise combined with any yellow green is a great combination, really vivid and mod. I love these two-toned flats from Anne Klein, which would work beautifully with white shorts or a white sundress.- Reds and pinks: Turquoise paired with red is another great combination (which has already been used to great advantage in Marimekko fabrics).
- Deep blues: Create a twist on the classic maritime look and pair turquoise shoes with navy or other deep blues. The turquoise provides an unexpected punch of color, and adds a contemporary touch to a traditional look.
