Trend Report: Clogs for Spring

Chanel Spring RunwayKarl Lagerfeld knocked the fashion world on its ear last fall by pairing his elegant and feminine spring fashions with high-heeled, studded clogs. Whether you liked that look or not, you are probably not surprised to learn that clogs are now very big for spring.

Before you recoil in horror, firm in your belief that you don’t want to relive the 70s, take a look at some of the clogs that Karl’s runway hath wrought. Onto the traditional wooden soles and leather upper they layer modern details, like studs and buckles. They’re available in dark tones, yes, but also in the bright colors of spring, like coral and apple green. And, artistic details abound, from reproductions of Klimt paintings to flowered soles to animal prints.

Stuart Weitzman StudclogMy point: Clogs have come a long way, baby.

As far as they’ve come, though, this season’s clogs still incorporate all their classic advantages: They’re comfy and sturdy and reasonably resistant to the mud and slush of early spring. And, while they obviously work great with jeans, Chanel showed them with short skirts and pale tights (or bare legs) on the runway, so you may even want to give that look a try, too.

Now that they’re actually in style, clogs may just end up being your go-to casual shoe this spring. Looking for inspiration, or still need convincing? Take a look at our entire collection of clogs here.
